Registration

Runner Check-in/Bib Pick-up High Priority

Details

Individuals will ID check runners and provide runners with their bib number. Each race (full, half, and 5 K) will have unique bib numbers.

Volunteers must be friendly and personable.

Volunteer must be knowledgable about runner logistics (where the shuttle picks up and when, that the racer info brief is an audio presentation that was emailed to registered runners, where aid stations and toilets exist for runners, that finisher medal and t-shirt pick-up (if pre-paid) is upon completion of the race, that placing runners will have individual award presentation with photo immediately following the runner's race completion, etc).

Volunteer must be detailed - each runner must receive their designated bib to ensure proper identification by chip timer. All runners must provide a photo ID upon check-in.

This is a seated and mobile position indoors/outdoors. This is a rain or shine event.

Race Monitor - McIntire High Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Individual ensures safety of racers through McIntire and adherence to race route. This is performed through physical gestures and audible cues to runners as needed.

Individual is not requested to stop or control traffic. Instead, individual is to notify runners of approaching traffic to assist with safety.

The races will run from 6:30 A.M. - noon. Please be in place no later than 8:30 A.M. with anticipated departure around 11:00 A.M. You will be officially cleared from duty by the ATV/UTV monitor following the last runner that comes through. This is a rain or shine event.

Race Monitor - Rear Patrol (Full Marathon) High Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

A responsible adult with motor vehicle license in good standing and a reliable golf cart to trail behind all marathon racers. Distance kept behind last runner should be a minimum of 100 ft to ensure no crowding.

Volunteer must be willing to assist racers who go down between aid stations. They must have capability and presence-of-mind to call for help and remain with the runner until assistance arrives.

Volunteer must be able to follow racers a minimum of 13 miles, potentially 27 miles at a variable pace.
Trash pick-up (bag provided) is requested when the rear monitor is able to dismount occasionally while the last runner progresses. Rear monitor will clear the aid stations so they know the final runner has gone through.

Volunteer must provide their own golf cart, cell phone and first aid kit. This is a rain or shine event.

Race Finish - Security High Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Volunteer must be capable of standing or sitting near entrance of restricted area for 2 hours in full sun or rain.

Volunteer will be watching the perimeter fencing to ensure no spectator, support person or media individual enters the secured finish zone and safe space for the racers. They must be willing to do this through conversation and gesture. If situations arise in their sightline that are concerning, they should act upon it and call law enforcement.

Runners' Shuttle

Half Marathon Shuttle High Priority

Coordinate with shuttle supplier to pick-up and fuel the shuttle. Pick-up Half-Marathon runners at the WGWL Trailhead "Riceville" sign at 6:45 A.M. and transport to the Half Marathon start point (MN/IA border on Stateline Rd).

Medical & Rescue

Emergency Services - Medical High Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

EMT/Paramedics will provide racer, bystander and volunteers medical assistance as needed. Ambulance/rescue vehicle will be located at the WGWL Trailhead.

Greet Racers upon their arrival to LeRoy as they disembark shuttles.

Volunteer must be knowledgable of where the LeRoy Community School Bus Barn Lavatories are and direct racers in need to their location.

Volunteer must direct racers to the race start and be knowledgable of the physically distance and staggered race start to answer any questions of runners.

Volunteer will need to stand and be mobile for 1 hour. This is a rain or shine event.

In the event of inclement weather, volunteer will be in charge of directing participants and volunteers to the LeRoy Community Center or available shuttles for sheltering in place.

Details

Greet Racers upon their finish. Distribute disposable masks if they don't have one. Distribute finisher medals for the Full and Half Marathon. Distribute perk items to the 5K participants. Hand out the pre-paid t-shirts, etc. Award overall trophies, placing medals and take photos of placing runners.

Volunteer will need to stand and be mobile on-and-off for 4.5 hours. These duties are distributed among three volunteers to allow for breaks while providing adequate coverage even in high flow (many racers finishing at the same time). This is a rain or shine event.

In the event of inclement weather, volunteer will be in charge of directing participants and volunteers to the WGWL Trail Welcome Center or available shuttles for sheltering in place.
