Two adults plus family members and friends are encouraged to cheer on the athletes, have water in cups and refreshments available (runner self-takes items, no-contact), pick-up all litter in the vicinity of your area, inform runners of approaching traffic to keep them aware. Set-up and take down a pop-up for a portable toilet. Volunteers are not requested to stop or control traffic. Instead, volunteers are to notify runners of approaching traffic to assist with safety.
Trash bags, water and cups, other refreshments and emergency communication phone tree will be provided. We are requesting volunteers bring a table, first aid kit and cell phone.
The races will run from 6:30 A.M. - noon. This water station should be in place no later than 7:00 AM with take-down around 8:30 AM. You will be officially cleared from duty by the ATV/UTV monitor following the last runner that comes through. This is a rain or shine event.
Main duties would be:
-to ensure availability of water and refreshment for runners
-be a cheerleader
-be a point of reference "Where's the loo?" "It's a half mile up."
-to stay with/communicate if a runner goes down.
-provide first aid when necessary
-clean up litter prior to departing area
Additionally, race numbers should be read off and recorded in order of all passing full marathon runners.
Those numbers must then be sent electronically to the race director or delivered to the WGWL Trailhead and given to the timing company for verification with the top finishers.
